Isis is a major goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology, she was also known by the names Aset, Ast Aust, or Eset (Au-set 'throne'). She was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife, and she was considered the divine mother of the pharaoh, who was likened to Horus. Her maternal aid was invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. She was the goddess of earth and rain, who was considered the protector of nature and magic.
